People come to counselling for lots of different reasons. Sometimes it is because of something specific like anxiety, depression, stress, difficulties at work or in relationships, or trying to make sense of the impact of past trauma. Other times people might find it more difficult to name exactly what it is they are struggling with - they may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or like something is missing in their life.
I believe that a lot of our struggles as human beings are connected to our relationships with others (particularly early relationships, like the ones with our caregivers) and the ways we learnt to adapt to the people around us. Counselling offers you the opportunity to experience a different kind of relationship, where you can bring the parts of yourself that might have been hidden, silenced or hurt, and where those parts of yourself can be seen and heard without judgement. It is not my job to try and analyse or ‘fix’ you, but to value the person you are and the hard work you have put into existing as a human being in relationship with other human beings.
As we work together, I hope that we can start to make sense of how you came to be where you are today and to discover new ways of being with yourself and others.
